According to the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper, the process is moving forward and the Ministry of Culture is seeking recognition of the land and submerged area of what was the island’s main fishing and commercial base during the 17th century.
By the end of December, this office will send to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) the dossier with the management plan, maps and other crucial elements that support the candidacy.
Subsequently, in January 2024, the Ministry expects to complete the documents to endorse the proposal.
