According to a spokesman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), initial reports of their investigation show the natural event as responsible for the rupture of the transmission line from Kotmale to Biyagama.

However, during Sunday’s parliamentary session, Minister of State for Energy Indika Anuruddha stated that her ministry and CEB will conduct two separate investigations into the event that left Sri Lanka in the dark for more than five hours, according to Adaderana news media.

After several hours, power was only restored to the National Hospital, in and around Colombo, several suburban areas of the capital, and the Southern province, CEB media spokesman engineer Noel Priyantha said Saturday.

Due to the situation, there were water supply interruptions in several areas and others received the liquid at low pressure.

Police forces were mobilized on high alert to ensure security throughout the country.
