In a ceremony presided over by the former vice-president and head of the Senate, Cristina Fernández, Milei and his running mate, Victoria Villarruel, signed the books of illustrious visitors of the upper and lower houses of Congress (parliament) and stood in front of the original of the National Constitution.
After taking the official oath of office, the new head of state received the presidential sash and baton from his predecessor, but did not address the legislators and foreign visitors present.
In turn, Villarruel was sworn in as vice-president, thanked the attendees, described the day as historic and concluded the Assembly.
Among the guests were the King of Spain, Felipe VI, the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturian, the Paraguayan Santiago Peña, the Chilean Gabriel Boric, the Ukrainian Vladimir Zelenski, the Israeli Chancellor Eli Cohen and the US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm.
