Delgado, who is very close to President Luis Lacalle Pou, will leave office on December 21 to join the electoral campaign as a presidential candidate for the ruling National Party.
But if the elections were to be held today, Delgado would lose in the second round to the current mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi, according to Factum consulting firm.
The poll places Orsi with an advantage among the rest of the FA pre-candidates: the mayors of Montevideo and Salto, Carolina Cosse and Andrés Lima, respectively; and Senator Mario Bergara.
According to Factum data, Yamandú Orsi would have had 51% of the votes against 41% of Delgado, who at this stage is in the lead over other party rivals.
In October 2024 the presidential and legislative elections in Uruguay will take place. In June of that same year, political parties will hold their internal elections to choose their candidates.
