The general director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Gerd Müller, declared on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) that they adopted a new cooperation approach to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Müller, quoted by the Emirati news agency WAM, mentioned the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, in this collaboration.

With the new vision, both parties will achieve greater exchange that will contribute to eliminate hunger and providing job opportunities in developing countries, he stressed.

He highlighted the benefit for many key sectors, taking into account the urgency of ensuring access to electricity and energy, mainly “because 600 million Africans do not have fair access to electricity.”

The general director of UNIDO recalled that the Islamic Development Bank is a key partner in financing and cooperation with private sector partners. In that case, UNIDO bridged this business partnership between the bank and investors in the field of clean energy, such as sustainable agriculture.

He noted the importance of investments focused on new and green technologies and partnerships that aim to provide energy access and food security for the growing population.
