The text, promoted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was supported by 13 UNSC members, while Washington rejected it and the United Kingdom abstained.
“A structural reform of the UN is urgent. The world is no longer the world of 1945,” Boric posted on X.
Plus, the resolution was co-sponsored by some 100 countries, including Chile.
“Unfortunately, the U.S. veto precludes from progressing on this urgent humanitarian need,” Chilean Ambassador to UN Paula Narvaez wrote on X.
Since October 7, Israeli aggressions against the Gaza Strip have caused over 17,400 deaths and 46,400 injuries.
