In a message published by the Presidency, the Angolan leader assured his Government will continue to create institutional, human and material conditions for different State organs in order to comply with their constitutional and legal responsibilities.

Lourenço also urged Angolans to commit themselves continuously and firmly to “moralization of society and a new mentality” regarding respect and protection of public assets and resources.

“We´ve already taken important steps, but we still have a long way to go. Only together and united will we be able to defeat corruption,” he assured.

The president recalled that the International Anti-Corruption Day, which is commemorated every December 9, was established by the United Nations in reference to the approval of the Convention against this scourge.

He also added that institutionalizing the date is the result of recognizing the universality of this scourge that really “disturbs societies, subverts moral values, overturns the rules of competition, undermines confidence in institutions, slows economic development and worsens social problems”.

Lourenço stressed Angola knows first-hand the damage corruption might cause, as well as the need to permanently combat corruption, creating conditions for its prevention, the elimination of the feeling of impunity and exemplary repression.
