Ethiopia: Education and climate change under debate at COP28

Dubai, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) Educating for a sustainable future: linking climate action, development, inclusion and resilience, is the event that occupies today's activities at Ethiopia's Green Legacy Pavilion at COP28.

Recognizing the multifaceted impacts of climate change, the African country is making a strategic journey to integrate climate change education within its formal education system, according to official sources.

This initiative is aligned with Ethiopia’s commitment to the Climate Resilient Green Economy strategy and international frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol.

The event will showcase educational strategies that promote understanding and action on climate change, sustainable development and resilience, in addition to highlighting the role of education in empowering communities, especially those populations most affected by climate crises such as young women.

Speakers included the Minister of Planning and Development of Ethiopia, Fitsum Assefa, the Secretary General of the South Cooperation Organization, Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam, among other experts.

The World Food Program, the African Development Bank and the agricultural innovation consortium Cgiar are organizing the event as part of Addis Ababa’s activities at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
