In statements to Télam news agency, Esquivel stressed the pressing need to preserve such three principles, especially in view of the arrival to the Government “of a leader of the political right, Javier Milei”, of La Libertad Avanza, with extreme ideas.
Milei is intending to sweep away all constitutional rights, with public and free education and health. He wants to reduce the State to a simple administrator, with no public policies. He supports the free market, but it does not exist, it is a lie we were sold.
The market is tied to the great economic interests, he warned.
If justice and governments are not at the service of the people, they are against them, he added.
Esquivel also claimed that both democracy and human rights are indivisible values and if the latter are violated, democracy weakens and disappears.
In a message to the youth, Esquivel urged them to continue fighting and not to lose hope.
We must build new possibilities for political growth, review our mistakes and not allow governments like Mauricio Macri’s to bring us back foreign debts. We must prepare ourselves to defend our natural resources, he said.
