The data was published at the conference “Challenges for the total protection of children and adolescents against sexual exploitation” with the participation of public and civil society organizations.

This year’s statistic means a decrease for the first time in four years. In the same period of 2022, 529 cases were reported.

According to the information, most of the situations were registered in Montevideo, and the departments of Maldonado, Canelones, and Colonia.

As in previous years, most of the victims were female children and adolescents (86 percent).

The report shows that a large proportion of the complaints involve persons between 12 and 17 years of age.

According to La Diaria newspaper, 62 percent of the victims were in a family context.

The information also reveals that 82 percent of the cases have been prosecuted, while only eight percent of the cases involved an adult.
