A report on serotypes identified by the National Virology Reference Center states that since last November 28th, 2,305 cases of dengue were confirmed with a predominance of DENV3 and DENV4 serotypes over the serotypes typically circulating in our territory, DENV1 and DENV2. The report underlines that both types of dengue were reported last year, for the first time in 22 years.
The Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate informed that during the week of November 20-26, the country already registered 24,941 cases of this disease.
In view of the current figures, authorities are asking the population to apply measures to avoid the spread of the disease through mosquito breeding sites.
The regions with the highest number of dengue cases registered this year are: Huetar Caribe region with 6,55 cases, followed by Central Norte with 5,592 cases and Chorotega with 3,819 cases.
Similarly, the priority cantons (municipalities) for dengue cases in 2023 are Puntarenas with a reported 2,300 cases, Alajuela with 2,134, Sarapiqui with 1,617, Siquirres with 1,591, Pococí with 1,535 and San Carlos with 1,376 cases.
