Kuczynski’s attorney argued in the request for authorization to travel, that the former president requires medical attention in the city of Rochester, Minnesota, due to failures in an aortic valve prosthesis that was implanted over 20 years ago.
The negative ruling was to avoid the former president’s escape as he’s still been investigated, adding that he can be treated in Peru.
Kuczynski has U.S. citizenship, which he suspended to run for president in 2016, and his wife traveled to the United States after Kuczynski’s resignation due to a political scandal in 2018, less than two years after taking office.
Kuczynski is accused of money laundering of up to USD$ 4.8 million the Odebrecht Company paid him, a deal the enterprise confirmed for consultancies of two Kuczynski’s firms in the United States, for participating in the Brazilian company’s bids for works in Peru, which Odebrecht has confirmed as well.
