Maduro recalls Nelson Mandela 10 years after his death

Caracas, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro today commemorated South African anti-apartheid fighter Nelson Mandela, a decade after his death.

In his social network account X, the president wrote that on a day like today the world bid farewell to ‘the South African leader Nelson Mandela, activist and defender of the rights of the people, victim of the cruel racial segregation in his country, of which he became the first black president’.

Maduro called Mandela “a world symbol of the struggle for peace and social justice.”

On a day like today in 2013, the South African politician died in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the age of 95, and with his departure the world lost a symbol of the struggle against discrimination and inequality.

To pay tribute to his life and historical legacy, the United Nations General Assembly established every July 18 as Nelson Mandela International Day, with the aim of making his social projects of progress, democracy and zero racial discrimination visible and making them a reality.
