Quito Metro transports 273,000 commuters in its first operating days

Quito, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) The Quito Metro, considered nowadays the most modern public transportation system in Ecuador, has transported 273,000 commuters in its first three days of operation, the Quito Mayor Pabel Muñoz informed on Monday.

The official described as optimal the operation of the train system, the tunnel and the signaling, although he acknowledged minor difficulties in the collection that will be polished in the coming days, Muñoz said.

During the weekend, several stations were crowded amidst the expectation to use the Metro, officially opened on Friday, December 1.

Amid the electricity crisis facing the country, Muñoz reported that he met with the Minister of Energy and Mines Andrea Arrobo to ensure the operation of trains throughout the day.

For the inhabitants of the Ecuadorian capital, the subway, with its 22 kilometers of route and its 15 stops, comes as a relief to the serious mobility problems of the city, although a decade after the beginning of its construction.
