In addition to the meeting with the head of the Chinese delegation to the 28th United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP28), Pérez presented the International Alliance for the Circularity of a Resilient and Low Carbon Sugarcane Agro-Industry.
The initiative, called the Circular Agro-Sugar Climate Alliance, is supported by countries such as Brazil, Ethiopia, the Dominican Republic, and China, besides the 10-Year Framework of Programs on Sustainable Production and Consumption Patterns.
The proposal is a new horizon for the sector, including the sustainable development of the communities, the care of the soil, and the avoidance of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The minister told Telesur television network that the Alliance does not look at the sugar agro-industry focused on the final production’s results; it starts from the sugar cane and its quality as an essential factor for the rest of the derivatives.
Pérez commented that representatives from ten countries participated in an international workshop in Havana a month ago and paved the way for the initiative with the experience of both government members and specialized agencies.
