Cuban and Mexican foundations sign agreement at COP28

Dubai, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's IRIS United for Change Foundation and Mexico's Ocean Foundation signed a cooperation agreement on Sunday, during the 28th United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP28).

The Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment informed on its X account, that IRIS Foundation President Rudy Montero, and María Alejandra Navarrete, legal representative of the Ocean Foundation, had penned the accord.

The IRIS United for Change Foundation is the first of its kind founded in Cuba. It aims to influence the fight against climate change and the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean.

On Sunday, Montero presented the foundation’s working objectives at Cuba’s pavilion at COP28, which is taking place in the United Arab Emirates until December 12.

The acronym IRIS (in Spanish) means Research, Resilience, Innovation, and Sustainability. It searches for systematizing scientific knowledge and the accumulated knowledge of society for its application in sustainable economic and social development.

Climate variability and the effects of climate change require the implementation of adaptation and mitigation measures, in which the Foundation’s actions will be relevant.
