An example of this, according to Diario El Salvador, was the laying of the first stone on Thursday night for the construction of the sports megaproject that will be the National Stadium, with a capacity of 50,000 people, and donated by China during a meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Nayib Bukele in December 2019.
The facility, which will be the largest of its kind in Central America and the most modern in Latin America, joins a majestic National Library built with China’s support and recently inaugurated in mid-November in the Historic Center of San Salvador.
This investment is over 100 million dollars and we will be inaugurating it at the beginning of 2027.
Studies, designs, planning have been made and now the 36 months of construction begin, the President said. He pointed out that when the new structure is ready, it will be the venue of the national soccer team and will have a capacity for 52,000 people, 50,000 of whom will be spectators in seats and 250 spaces for the public in wheelchairs, a VIP area and spaces for journalists, among others.
The Chinese ambassador, in turn, emphasized that they are proud of witnessing the execution of the beginning of this great project, selected by the Salvadoran president from among three proposals prepared by China.
Both nations are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement to encourage imports and exports in their markets.
