This will be the first time that Brazil holds this position in the history of the group in its current format. Official sources indicated that, throughout his presidency, Brazil will organize more than 100 working group meetings, to be held virtually and in person, and close to 20 ministerial meetings, culminating with the summit of heads of government and state in Rio de Janeiro, from November 18 to 19, 2024.
During the 18th summit of heads of government and state, held in September in New Delhi, India, Lula launched the three main axes of the Brazilian presidency of the G20: the fight against hunger, poverty and inequality; the three dimensions of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental); and the reform of global governance.
If we want to make a difference, we have to put the reduction of inequalities at the center of the international agenda, the former labor leader said in his speech at the closing of the meeting.
“All these priorities are contained in the motto of the Brazilian presidency: Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” he stressed.
