Luanda, Dec 1 (Prensa Latina) High-ranking officers of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), members of the diplomatic corps and of organizations of solidarity recalled today the foundation of Cuba's Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).

In a ceremony held at the Antonio Agostinho Neto Memorial, guests joined a group of cooperators from the island and members of the diplomatic mission in Luanda to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the creation of the FAR, on December 2, 1956.

Cuban ambassador Oscar Leon, General Arthur Santos Viana, deputy the FAA chief of staff for operational area and development, as well as the Cuban military attaché in Angola, Enrique Kindelan, began the celebration by laying a wreath in homage to the first Angolan president.

Santos Viana congratulated the FAR and highlighted the example of the Cuban Revolution, which inspired the struggles against colonialism in Africa and other regions of the world.

He added that the island was determining factor in that struggle at a global level, not only in Angola, but also in other countries such as Ethiopia, Ghana and Nicaragua, just to mention a few.

He reaffirmed the permanent feeling of brotherhood and solidarity with the Cuban people, who responded to the Angolan call and shared the trench; besides contributing to the formation of cadres who are currently in charge of defense and other social sectors.

We will continue working to strengthen the historic ties of friendship, he remarked.

Kindelán, in turn, recalled the origins of the FAR and how they have always been in the first trench in the difficult moments of the country’s history, always working for the people of the Caribbean nation, of which they are a part.
