At the Baha’i House of Worship auditorium of the Lotus Temple in New Delhi, the prestigious Cuban folkloric company offered a repertory in which dances and songs showed Cuban tradition and cultural richness.
In his remarks before the performance, Cuban Ambassador to India, Alejandro Simancas, expressed his gratitude to the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the auditorium’s authorities for hosting the show “La Raíz y el Tiempo” (The Root and the Time), performed by the Cuban company that was founded on May 7, 1962.
Simancas also thanked Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, who is currently on an international tour, for her substantial support in strengthening relations between the two countries.
The ambassador described the CFNC’s performance in India as a symbol of the cooperation that unites the two nations and hoped that this moment would become a stimulus for promoting bilateral cultural exchanges.
The company’s general artistic director, Leiván García, told Prensa Latina that the group’s performance in India, organized by the ICCR and supported by the Cuban Embassy in this country, was a great pleasure.
The CFNC members performed in several artistic events, including the Tril Hills Ensemble Festival in Meghalaya and the 7th India International Folkloric Festival in Kolkata, with dances related to the Yoruba pantheon gods, Yemayá, Elegbá, Ogún, besides son, boleros, rumbas, mambos, and casino.
The dance folkloric company will close its performances this Thursday at the Sanganeria Auditorium at the University of Delhi.
