China and US to reopen high-level military talks

EEUU-China-768x433
Beijing, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) China and the United States will reopen high-level military exchanges, as agreed by the top leaders of the two countries, the Ministry of Defense of China reported.

Ministry of Defense spokesman Wi Qiang assured that the two countries will restore military-to-military exchanges, defense policy coordination talks, and Military Maritime Consultative Agreement meetings. They will also hold telephone calls between operational theater commanders.

Wi assured at a press conference that the re-establishment of military dialogue will be done based on equality and respect and following the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.

Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden agreed in their recent meeting in San Francisco to restore military contacts suspended since last year, among other issues.

During the talks, both leaders agreed to keep the lines of contact open to prevent the rivalry between the two world powers from leading to a confrontation.

China stopped military dialogue with the United States after Nancy Pelosi, who served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, visited Taiwan in August 2022, which generated serious tensions and was described by Beijing as a serious provocation and a threat to China’s sovereignty.
