The document was approved by a vote of 91 members in favor, eight against (Australia, Canada, Israel, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, the United Kingdom, and the United States), while 62 nations abstained.
The text of the resolution expressed deep concern over Israel’s failure to withdraw from the Syrian Golan Heights and reaffirmed the illegality of settlement constructions in the area.
It also called on Israeli authorities to withdraw from this territory to the June 4, 1967 lines by relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
This occupation and its de facto annexation are an obstacle to achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region, the document stated.
Israel occupied the Golan Heights following the 1967 Six-Day War and annexed that territory into its legal system in 1981, a move rejected by the international community.
