During the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Kenrick Williams, executive director of the ministry, thanked the UN agency in Belize for its support on pressing issues such as disaster risk reduction and its impact on women and young people.
UNICEF´s representative in Belize Alison Parker, on the other hand, said that the Child Climate Risk Index reports that approximately one billion children, half of all children in the world, live in countries like Belize that are classed as ‘extremely high risk’.
She noted that over the past three years, the country has endured an increase in extreme rainfall, flash floods and hurricanes that threaten its economy, people and assets.
At this point, she remarked on how climate change affects children.
