KCNA, a state-run agency, reported today that the chairman of the State Affairs Committee and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces appreciated the quality of the photos taken by the satellite of various targets of interest.
The fine control process of the satellite is proceeding accurately according to the means and control system of the Pyongyang General Control Center of the National Aerospace Technology Directorate, the source said.
Among the places and targets photographed were the U.S. Anderson Air Force Base on the island of Guam (in the Pacific Ocean), the Norfolk Naval Base, a Newport News shipyard, a military airport in the state of Virginia, the Pentagon, and the White House.
Kim, according to KCNA, was very satisfied with the first operational results of the Malligyong-1 reconnaissance satellite.
The launch of the satellite aboard the Chollima-1 rocket was successful after two failed attempts that coincided with the U.S. and South Korea’s conduct of the Eulji Freedom Shield exercises, which the DPRK considers invasion training. The possession of the satellite is a legitimate right as it concerns the protection of the security and interests of the state, the tranquility of the people, and the ability to deter threats and aggression from hostile forces, Kim stressed at the time.
