Several regional media informed that Egypt and Qatar are leading the negotiation to extend the truce, which expires at 07:00 local time on Tuesday after four days of relative calm in the coastal enclave.
In a phone call with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi called for calm in the area and to adopt urgent steps to increase the humanitarian aid to Palestinians living there.
A growing international movement, including countries, UN agencies, and NGOs, is calling for an end to Israel’s aggression against Gaza, which has killed more than 14,000 citizens since October 7.
On Friday morning, the ceasefire went into effect, allowing the release of 39 Israelis, 117 Palestinians, 17 Thais, one Filipino, and one Russian-Israeli.
The truce allowed more food, fuel, and medicine to reach the enclave through the Rafah crossing on Egypt’s border, which is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
