On Sunday, a joint convoy removed 7,600 doses of vaccines for various diseases from the enclave’s Health Ministry warehouse, where they would have been rendered unusable due to lack of refrigeration in the north, and successfully brought them to the south, according to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
“After thorough inspections to guarantee validity, the vaccines will be used to enhance routine immunization, which has been hampered by supply shortages and ongoing hostilities,” OCHA added.
Earlier, the World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Children’s Fund deployed a joint mission to deliver vital food assistance to Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza.
“It’s a promising step, but the team told painful stories of people who have not received aid for weeks,” WFP’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territory Samer Abdel Jaber posted on X.
Past Saturday, a mission led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society evacuated at least 17 patients and wounded from Al-Ahli hospital, along with 11 of their escorts, to the European hospital in Khan Younis, in the south.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that patients were “suffering from bullet wounds, amputations and burns,” as he withdrew his call for a sustained ceasefire.
