The complaint accuses them of other deaths and injuries during the demonstrations unleashed by Boluarte’s ascension to office on December 7, 2022, which lasted until March 2023.
Santisteban was murdered by a policeman who shot him down at close range with a tear gas bomb that hit him in the head and caused his death, while he was participating in one of the rallies, in downtown Lima, without being recognized by the Government or the Police.
Benavides announced the decision after refusing to resign following her retirement requests due to the political scandal unleashed by the arrest of three of his predecessors who, invoking her name, agreed with parliamentary benches on mutually beneficial decisions through an exchange of favors.
The accusation includes Boluarte’s former Ministers of the Interior Cesar Cervantes, Victor Rojas and Vicente Romero, who were in office during the repression of the demonstrations.
