Without directly mentioning the United States, she alluded to Washington’s economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and Venezuela and to its unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism in which the name of the Caribbean island is maintained.
Inaugurated by President Luis Arce, Sosa is the first woman in democracy to officially assume the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs – Karen Longaric was Foreign Minister of the de facto government (2019-2020) – and until this Monday the head of the Presidency, María Nela Prada, occupied that post on an interim basis.
Sosa emphasized that the Plurinational State proposes to advance in the establishment of the world as a peace zone, an initiative approved for this continent at the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States in Havana in 2014, and that President Arce reiterated for the planet at the United Nations General Assembly.
In her first official speech, the authority thanked President Arce for the trust to lead that ministry and expressed that she takes on a “great responsibility” and assumes the “greatest commitment” in all her experience and career.
“I take on this title of Plurinational State,” she ratified, “at a time when humanity is facing the urgent challenge of building and consolidating a new and fairer world order, but also in a context in which internal and external threats put democracy at risk.”
