Mariana Grajales weaved a legend by fostering a family of heroes who lived and died for Cuba’s independence, among them the Mambi generals Antonio and José Maceo, leaders of the battles against the Spanish colonial army.
In front of the Mother Ceiba monument that adorns his tomb in the Santa Ifigenia patrimonial cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, a wreath was laid in the name of the Cuban people, and hundreds of people came with flowers to pay tribute to him.
In Cuba, Mariana Grajales inspired several generations of women who, like her, made their contribution in different stages of the struggle; in honor of the heroine, a unit that fought in the war of liberation led by the Rebel Army led by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in the Sierra Maestra, in the eastern part of the country, was created and named “Las Marianas”.

Cuba rindió homenaje a Mariana Grajales a 130 años de su muerte
Santiago de Cuba, 27 nov (Prensa Latina) Los cubanos rindieron homenaje hoy en esta ciudad a Mariana Grajales, heroína reconocida por el pueblo como Madre de la Patria, en ocasión de cumplirse 130 años de su muerte en Jamaica.
Mariana Grajales tejió una leyenda por fomentar una familia de héroes que vivieron y murieron por la independencia de Cuba, entre ellos los generales mambises Antonio y José Maceo, protagonistas de las contiendas contra el ejército colonial de España.
Ante el monumento Madre Ceiba que adorna su tumba en el cementerio patrimonial Santa Ifigenia de Santiago de Cuba, fue depositada una ofrenda floral en nombre del Pueblo de Cuba, y acudieron hasta allí cientos de personas con flores a rendirle tributo.
En Cuba, Mariana Grajales inspiró a varias generaciones de mujeres que como ella hicieron su aporte en diferentes etapas de lucha; en honor a la heroína fue creado y bautizado con el nombre “Las Marianas” un pelotón que combatió en la guerra de liberación protagonizada por el Ejército Rebelde liderado por el Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro en la Sierra Maestra, en la zona oriental del país. ro/yvg
