Such a figure means a remarkable increase compared to the previous year, and the number is expected to exceed two million before the end of the year, Martini said in statements.
Martini added that the increased 2023 rate reaches 20% despite the war in the region and the Israeli attacks that have forced Damascus and Aleppo airports not to operate.
According to Martini, there has been a 25% surge in the number of Iraqi visitors to Syria this year compared to last year, due to the visa exemption to enter Syria.
In 2010, the year before the start of the war, Syria received 8,500,000 visitors, so this sector contributed 90% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but thereafter the inflow of tourists dropped by 98 %.
