UN Security Council failed in Gaza crisis, Türkiye says

Ankara, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) The UN Security Council was unable to do its job in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the spokesman of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Fahrettin Altun, considered in a conference in this capital.

After stressing that the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip caused 14,854 deaths, including 6,150 minors and some 4,000 women, according to Palestinian sources, Altun pointed out that one of the worst tragedies in history occurred in full view of the world community.

We must do everything possible to achieve a de-escalation of the war in Gaza, but the UN Security Council failed in its responsibility to maintain peace, the spokesman saying was quoted by Anadolu Agency.

At least four votes of different initiatives were necessary to finally approve a pronouncement in the referred organism to demand a cessation of hostilities, after the Israeli forces bombarded the mentioned enclave since last October 7.

The majority of the 2.3 million inhabitants of Gaza were deprived of food, water, electricity, medicine and fuel and nearly one million of them were displaced, while residential buildings, hospitals and schools were destroyed, he denounced.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a matter of justice and conscience, above and beyond other political considerations. The current crisis demonstrates once again that without a real solution to this dispute, there will be no lasting peace, he said.
