Mexican government reaffirms commitment to women

Mexico City, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) Mexico reaffirmed its commitment to women on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated today, November 25.

In an official statement, the Government of Mexico ratified its respect for the rights of the female population.

This was stated by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, in Oaxaca.

She said that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador instructed her to address the structural causes that generate violence, and to work to prevent and inhibit crimes committed in communities, homes and schools.

With this purpose, she explained, the Integral Strategy to tackle Violence against Women and Girls that was permanently implemented in the 15 municipalities of the country with the highest incidence of gender-based crimes.

The Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, the Ministry of the Interior, the Armed Forces, the National Guard and the Attorney General’s Office are participating in this effort.

Also collaborating in this campaign are the Ministry of Welfare, the Undersecretary of Human Rights, the National System for the Integral Development of the Family, the National Women’s Institute, as well as the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence against Women.

We want women and girls to be able to walk, study and live free of violence, aware that the right to live free of violence must be guaranteed by the Mexican State,” she said.

She pointed out that since this week, the government has been carrying out actions on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism to address Violence against Women, which will conclude on December 11.
