According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks focused on exploring ways to strengthen the activities and operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, both parties addressed the serious humanitarian situation in the enclave, under attack by the Israeli military since October 7th.
Shoukry briefed Lazzarini on the results of Egypt’s efforts to contain the crisis in the region, including talks to achieve a truce between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement.
The head of Egyptian diplomacy urged “a complete and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible” in order to alleviate the terrible humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinians.
He also condemned the Israeli bombings against the population and civilian buildings, including UNRWA facilities, which he considered a flagrant violation of all provisions of international law.
For his part, Lazzarini highlighted the seriousness of the humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the important challenges faced by the agency.
