The poll showed that 58 percent of those registered would vote against the new constitution and 42 in favor of it.

The project was elaborated by the Constitutional Council, in which the extreme right and conservative sectors had an absolute majority and included amendments considered regressive by broad popular spheres.
Among these are those that oppose the voluntary interruption of pregnancy in cases of rape, fetal non-viability and danger to the mother’s life.
The fundamental law proposal also goes against collective bargaining of labor, the right to strike and union freedom, and attempts to benefit prisoners convicted of serious human rights violations during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).
