Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, thus responded to recent comments made by South Korean and British authorities about the alleged freedom of navigation and overflight in said areas and demanded that they act with caution in matters relating to China’s fundamental interests.
The diplomat also referred to the issue of Taiwan and assured that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory and an issue that does not admit any type of foreign interference.
On several occasions, Beijing has called on its neighbors and some Western powers to respect its internal affairs, especially those related to Taiwan or the South Sea.
Regarding the waterway, China has always stated that it is willing to work with Southeast Asian countries to manage differences through dialogue and accelerate consultations on a code of conduct, but rejects any type of external meddling.
China denounces that countries like the United States and other Western powers are trying to use the issues of the South Sea or Taiwan to affect China and generate destabilization in the region.
