DPRK defends its right to launch military satellites

Pyongyang, Nov 23 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) proclaimed today that its recent launching of the military reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1 constitutes a legitimate exercise of self-defense and sovereignty.

A statement from the Ministry of National Defense claimed that the test, successfully conducted the day before, is a ‘corresponding measure’ to the increasingly worrisome military actions of the country’s enemies.

It noted that the South Korean government and military top brass rushed to convene their National Security and Ministerial councils and decided to invalidate some articles of a military agreement signed by the two countries in 2018.

Additionally, Seoul called for a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the grounds that the Malligyong-launch was in violation of a resolution of the international body.

According to the statement, it was precisely South Korea that violated the terms of the aforementioned agreement and has turned it into a dead letter by continuously carrying out ‘all kinds of military provocations’ against the DPRK.

By the order of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the People’s Army feels released from the commitments of the North-South Military Dominance Agreement on land, air and sea,” it said, “and resumes all military measures that had been suspended under the treaty.

“We will deploy more powerful forces and armament to the Military Demarcation Line, where the most acute state of military confrontation in the world persists, the document said.”

It warned that in the face of the enemy’s ‘conflict fever’, the DPRK will continue to watch its movements and modernize the armed forces as a deterrent to war.
