The new president received the presidential sash, on which it was written ‘My power in the Constitution, from the hands of the head of the National Assembly (Parliament), Henry Kronfle.
During the ceremony, held at the legislative headquarters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility awarded the president with the decoration of the Great Collar of the National Order of Merit, the highest award granted by the Ecuadorian State.
After departure of former President Guillermo Lasso, amidst shouts of ‘Out with Lasso, out,’ Noboa signed the presidential decree by virtue of which he assumed the Presidency of the Republic.
In his first speech as president, which lasted less than 10 minutes, he insisted that as a young man he will give a renewed vision to his administration, which will have a diverse cabinet.
‘We have never had so many women and young people and that mix is what the country needs to grow’, he said.
Looking to the immediate future, he will work against insecurity and, according to his approach, increasing employment is crucial in that battle, so he will send urgent reforms to the Assembly, ‘thinking of the country,’ he added.
Noboa thanked the friendly nations present for accompanying Ecuador at this particular time in history, and said that he would ask for their support “because our struggles are everyone’s struggles.”
