“I hope that this agreement will pave the way for a political and lasting way out of this conflict, and for the resumption of Israeli-Palestinian peace process,” Lula said at a virtual meeting of the G20.
Israel and Hamas concluded a four-day truce on Tuesday. Such an arrangement involved the release of Israeli hostages, mostly women and children, and the release of Palestinian prisoners, also consisting of women and children.
Lula stated that the issue will require “good will” not only from the countries involved.
“This set of challenges will require political will and determination on the part of rulers and leaders of all countries and international organizations,” he added.
He assured that, through dialogue, “we must put the world back on the path to peace and prosperity”.
On December 1, Brazil will assume the presidency of the G20, a bloc that brings together the 20 largest economies in the world, now led by India.
