DRC and UN sign memorandum on Monusco’s withdrawal

Kinshasa, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the United Nations signed a memorandum establishing the plan for the withdrawal of the UN mission from the country, Radio Okapi reported on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in the DRC, Bintou Keita, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula, penned the document on the departure of the UN Stabilization Mission in the Congo, known as Monusco.

According to Radio Okapi, the memorandum establishes that Monusco will leave the DRC as of December, starting with the withdrawal of its troops and followed by the other services of the UN mission.

on his X account, Keita pointed out that the plan will be implemented with national authorities and agencies, funds and programs of the international organization.

Lutundula told local television that speeding up the departure of Monusco is crucial to ease tensions between the mission and DRC citizens.

It is time to consider new ways of cooperation, better adapted to our current needs, the deputy prime minister stated.
