The just advisory measure was presented by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Party, backed in Parliament by the ruling African National Congress (ANC).
The motion was approved by 248 votes, including that of the EFF parliamentarians, as well as those of the majority ANC bloc, mainly.
On the other side, 91 lawmakers from the Democratic Alliance and two other political groupings opposed the bill.
Today’s vote came a day after Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed it had recalled its Ambassador to South Africa Eliav Belotsercovsky for consultations following “South Africa’s latest statements.”
