Slovakian FM asks for a diplomatic solution to Ukrainian conflict

Bratislava, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar on Tuesday criticized the European Union (EU)'s arms shipments to Ukraine and called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

Delivering more and more weapons while countless people are dying does not lead to any progress.

Moreover, after 600 days, it can be seen that the sanctions are doing more harm to the EU than to Russia, stated Blanar, who was quoted by the digital newspaper Aktuality.sk. The sanctions against Russia had a boomerang effect on Slovakia’s economy, with a bigger impact, as a result of high fuel and food prices, Blanar pointed out.

The EU was once a peace project to ensure peaceful coexistence among the States of this region and we want to return to this original idea, the official added, according to the above-mentioned media outlet.

The foreign minister spoke of a frozen conflict for which there is no military solution and explained that the new Slovakian Government is open to all progressive ideas to seek peace in the former Soviet republic, the newspaper reported.

Blanar called for an immediate ceasefire and noted that Slovakia supports a democratically-ruled Ukraine, existing within the internationally recognized borders, Aktuality.sk stressed.

In addition, the politician in Robert Fico’s Government asked the EU for non-military aid worth 50 billion euros that Ukraine should receive in the next four years, the online newspaper reported.
