Cuban Vice President continues official visit to Rwanda (+Photos)

Kigali, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés continues his official visit to Rwanda on Tuesday to strengthen political relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Valdés met with the vice president of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, Consolee Uwimana, and ratified ‘the political will to strengthen the ties between our parties, united by elements that prove the constant commitment to the sustainable development of both peoples,’ he wrote on his X account.

Previously, he visited the Museum of the Campaign against Genocide which, as the Cuban leader said, the sequence of events described, which occurred in 1994, are lessons for present and future generations of Rwandans and the entire world.

The site recalls that between 800,000 and one million Rwandans, mostly Tutsis and Hutus of moderate political behavior, were fatal victims of extremist factions for about three months in 1994, a period that has been called the bloody spring.

On Monday, the Cuban vice president concluded his first day in Kigali with a meeting with Prime Minister Édouard Ngirente.

During the meeting, he ratified Cuba’s commitment to working to increase cooperation in all spheres that will contribute to the two peoples’ prosperity.

He added that despite the short time spent in Rwanda, an intense and very fruitful program of events have been carried out.

Ngirente, in turn, said that he expects that ‘with this visit and exchanges, we can contribute to strengthening bilateral ties and increasing cooperation in various sectors of common interest.’

The Cuban delegation also includes First Deputy Minister of Public Health Tania Margarita Cruz, and the Deputy Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Angel Villa.

The Cuban vice president’s official tour began in Ghana on November 13 and continued in Guinea Bissau and Ethiopia.
