Leader of the Comando Amplio de Solidaridad con Cuba died in Chile

Santiago de Chile, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Comando Amplio de Solidaridad con Cuba and the Bicentennial Union of the Peoples (UBP), Juan Cuevas, died in Chile at the age of 76.

Born on October 8, 1947, Cuevas developed extensive works in support of the just causes of Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Bolivia, and other Latin American countries.

He led numerous campaigns, among them the struggle for the return of the child Elián, the release of The Five, and the rejection of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

“International solidarity with the peoples of the Americas took with his revolutionary practice a dimension difficult to surpass,” a UBP statement said.

Since 2007 Juan Cuevas has held the Friendship Medal awarded by the Cuban Council of State at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
