On his X account, the head of Cuban diplomacy expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims, who are estimated at least 21, according to information released by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) of the Dominican Republic.
Rodriguez also ratified Cuba’s invariable position of solidarity and expressed confidence that the Dominican people and Government will face together such unfortunate adversities.
On Sunday, the COE confirmed the deaths of 21 people, including 14 Dominicans, three Haitians and four Americans, as a result of accidents of various kinds.
According to press reports, nine of the deceased perished when they were hit by a wall of a level crossing on a street of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.
The rest of the victims were swept away by the overflowing waters of creeks and streams, as well as by the flooding of streets and buildings in several sectors of the city.
