The number of days without murders in El Salvador continues to increase and maintains the trend so far this year, according to official data released by the National Civil Police (PNC) in the early hours of this morning.
The figures indicate that January closed with 22 days without murders, February with 21, March with 20, April with 24, May 18, June 21, July 23, August 20, September with 20, and October ended with 15 days with zero homicides.
Under the government of President Nayib Bukele, a total of 488 days with zero homicides were achieved, of which 378 were reached between March 27, 2022 to date, under the context of the exception regime extended 20 times in El Salvador.
The security issue was impacted this week by news of the arrest of Elmer Canales Rivera, alias “Crook,” in Mexico, which brought to light alleged government links to gangs.
“Crook,” the high-ranking Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) leader who was captured last November 9 by FBI agents at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, coming from Mexico, has already had his first appearance before U.S. authorities.
