In an advisory, Phivolcs said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, and was located about 30 kilometers southwest of Sarangani, although it was also felt in the regions of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Davao Del Sur.

Phivolcs considered that significant damage is expected from the quake and warned of possible aftershocks, although there is no tsunami threat, based on available sea level data.
