Cuban president mourns death of solidarity activist Babis Vorreas

Havana, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday mourned the death of Greek solidarity activist Babis Vorreas.

In his beloved Greece, Cuba’s dear friend, Babis Vorreas, who loved his homeland as much as ours, has died. He devoted all his energy and experience to fight for just causes, and until his death he fought against the genocidal blockade with words and deeds, the president wrote on his X account.

For more than three decades, Vorreas worked hard in his country in favor of respect for Cuba’s right to its sovereignty, self-determination and independence in the light of the United States blockade, and the end of Washington’s hostile policy against Venezuela, as well as in defense of the Palestinian cause.

He was a member of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Five Cuban heroes unjustly held in US prisons for warning their country about terrorist activities concocted in South Florida.

During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, Vorreas gathered the largest donations from important Greek companies for Cuba’s health care and transportation.

Since 2015, he had been a member of the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity for the People.
