FAO promotes women’s agricultural work in Cuba

Havana, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), reportedly stated that the European Union (EU) Funding promotes in Cuba the incorporation of women in agricultural work.

In this regard, the FAO report adds that reflecting on the participation of women in the scientific field of agriculture and making visible the gender gaps that persist in the institutes, was the purpose of the second meeting on the subject promoted by the global entity.

The gathering, entitled Women in Science: Between Inequalities and Empowerment, was held at the Institute of Swine Research (IIP) as part of the Capacity Building Program to enable the gender approach in research projects and knowledge management.

This initiative, which stresses the message, is led by the project Strengthening the Integrated Knowledge Management System (SIGC) for sustainable food security in Cuba (Consas), implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba (Minag), with technical assistance from FAO.

The event was attended by researchers, scientists and gender experts who, through popular education methodologies, shared experiences and knowledge to promote equity policies in the field of agricultural sciences.
