Cuban parliamentary leader has busy agenda in Belgium

Brussels, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban National Assembly Secretary Homero Acosta is visiting Brussels on Thursday to strengthen relations with authorities and members of the European Parliament, political forces, and local colleagues.

Cuba’s reality, the effects of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States, the characteristics and priorities of Parliament in its 10th Legislature, and the achievements and challenges of Cuban society are the focus of the meetings with representatives of different countries and political parties.

The importance of implementing the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba and the investment opportunities Cuba offers will also be topics in the talks.

European Parliament Vice President Pina Picierno, a member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, met with Acosta, who is also the Secretary of the Council of State, on the third day of his working visit to Belgium on Wednesday.

Acosta explained to Picierno the work of the Assembly, which has a majority of women, and the progress of the legislative timetable that resulted from the 2019 Constitution.

Tamara Valido, president of the Attention to Services Commission at the National Assembly; Luis Morlote, vice president of the Education, Culture, Science, Technology, and Environment Commission; and Cuban Ambassador to Belgium Yaira Jimenez are accompanying Acosta during his visit.

The Cuban delegation expressed gratitude for Belgium’s support against the US blockade and Washington’s tightening of coercive measures such as Cuba’s inclusion its unilateral list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, which was condemned here.

Acosta is also participating in the International Court sessions that is symbolically trying the US blockade against Cuba on Thursday and Friday.
