The lawyer in question is Luis Hermosilla, who was a partner of the former Minister of the Interior Andrés Chadwick in the two periods of government of Sebastián Piñera (2010-2014) and (2018-2022).

Hermosilla also represented that administration as a lawyer and now works for businessman Daniel Sauer, linked to the stock exchange sector and who is under investigation by the Internal Revenue Service (SII) and the Financial Market Commission (CMF).

During a conversation that was recorded, Hermosilla referred to the convenience of paying bribes to people related to the latter two institutions to obtain privileged information in favor of his client.

In the conversation he even acknowledged that this is a crime, as well as the existence of a previous debt with one of these officials of the IIC and the CMF whose identity he does not know.

However, the audio was leaked and published yesterday on the website of Ciper, an independent digital means dedicated to investigative journalism.

This Wednesday, the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Chilean Presidency, Álvaro Elizalde, addressed the issue and assured that this is a very serious accusation, which must be clarified in the investigation already opened in the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The lawyer and former prosecutor, Carlos Gajardo, said that he did not rule out the existence of similar corruption mechanisms in other government agencies, although he did not offer details.
